When: Evening, around dinnertime
Where: A local diner
What: Get dinner and make buddies
Gabe had not intended to make friends. He'd come to the PPDC because he felt it was his duty to contribute to the future of the human race. It wasn't because he particularly liked people, nor was it out of some kind of hero complex. If he was being honest with himself - and he often was, brutally - he was doing it for Ruth, and for Chas. They were good, simple people and they deserved to live long, stupid lives free of monsters.
So, no friends for him here. He had plenty of friends back home, people who would text him and send him letters and, when time zones allowed, would call him. Kodiak was just a place where he could keep his head down and do his work, where he could get those giant scrapheaps walking and hopefully push back the invasion.
But Andi had surprised him. She had a sense of humor, an appreciation for the ridiculous. And so against his better judgement, he was leaving the base and going to a diner and having dinner with a human being who wanted to be his friend.
